Webuild Secures Major U.S. Contract for Twin Rail Tunnels

Webuild's subsidiary, Lane, has secured a significant contract valued at $466 million to build twin rail tunnels that will link New York to New Jersey.
This initiative is part of the expansive Hudson Tunnel Project, which has a total budget of $16.1 billion.
The primary goal is to improve train connections across the Hudson River.
The Palisades Tunnel, one of three separate tunnels in the project, will be constructed alongside the Hudson River Tunnel and the Manhattan Tunnel.
The contract also involves maintaining an existing tunnel that has been in use for over 114 years.
The 'Package 1A Palisades Tunnel Project' includes the design and construction of two parallel rail tunnels, each approximately 1.6 km long and with an internal diameter of about eight meters.
Two large mechanical boring machines will be used for the excavation.
Additionally, the project encompasses the construction of the tunnel's western portal near Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen, six cross-connecting tunnels, and a shaft in Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey.
This shaft, over 36 meters deep and nearly 37 meters wide, will be used to extract the boring machines once their work is complete.
The project is a joint venture with Schiavone and Dragados, with an expected completion date in 2027.
Webuild is a global leader in underground excavation, having completed over 3, 400 kilometers of tunnels worldwide.
In the U.S., the company has previously executed the Intake 3 project under Lake Mead near Las Vegas, which involved constructing a record-breaking hydraulic tunnel over four kilometers long at a depth of 200 meters.
Recently, Webuild's stock saw a rise of over 3% on the Milan Stock Exchange, with a nearly 40% increase over the past year.
