The Amerigo Vespucci, a training ship of the Italian Navy, is set to dock in Tokyo for the first time in its 93-year history.
This visit marks the 22nd stop of its global tour, which began in Genoa on July 1, 2023.
The ship will host the 'Villaggio Italia', an exhibition promoting Italian culture, art, and innovation.
The event serves as a precursor to the Osaka Expo next year, featuring Italian opera, cinema, and wine.
High-profile attendees include Italian and Japanese defense ministers, highlighting the strategic importance of this initiative.

The ship will remain in Tokyo until August 30, showcasing the 'Villaggio Italia', an exhibition that highlights Italian culture, art, history, and technological innovation.
This event is a significant step in promoting the 'Sistema Italia' ahead of the Osaka Expo next year.
The exhibition features notable Italian cultural symbols, including the Italian Opera Academy led by Maestro Riccardo Muti, musicians from the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, and collaborations with the Venice Biennale's International Film Festival.
The event will also present Italian wines in partnership with Verona Fiere–Vinitaly.
The 'Villaggio Italia' will host concerts, exhibitions, immersive installations, and conferences, with the inauguration attended by key figures such as Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and his Japanese counterpart Minoru Kihara.
The presence of Italian naval vessels, including the aircraft carrier Cavour and the frigate Alpino, further strengthens Italy-Japan relations.
The initiative, supported by 11 Italian ministries, is a testament to Italy's strategic efforts in cultural diplomacy.
Following Tokyo, the Vespucci's tour will continue to Darwin, Singapore, Mumbai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah, before concluding in Genoa in June 2025.
